Statistics is a branch of mathematics that relates to data; collecting, managing, analysing and drawing conclusions from it provides insights that power success across all kinds of industries and sectors.

Graduates of statistics are highly sought after, with roles always available in areas from government policymaking to financial analysis, science and engineering, medicine and more.

There over 130 postgraduate programmes available in statistics, including options to focus on areas such as applied statistics, data science or biostatistics. Taught courses include MSc degrees, along with research qualifications such as MPhil and PhD.

What to expect

Universities will usually ask for an undergraduate degree in a maths related subject such as economics, chemistry, physics, maths or statistics.

Common topics covered at postgraduate level include as data science, statistics, probabilistic modelling, machine learning, and software technologies.

A postgraduate qualification in statistics will help you advance your career. You might decide to become a data analyst, data scientist, biostatistician, machine learning engineer or a research scientist among other examples.
