Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at BIMM University

The best aspect of my experience at BIMM London was being surrounded by creative and ambitious people who constantly motivated me to improve. The industry focused teaching and lecturers with real world experience gave me practical knowledge about how the music business actually works. Being based in London also provided valuable networking opportunities and exposure to live events and connections within the industry.

The worst aspect was that opportunities and general organisation could have been communicated more clearly to students. At times, important information was not shared as effectively as it could have been, which made it harder to fully take advantage of everything available. Better and more consistent communication would have improved the overall experience. read full review
Previously known as the Screen & Film School, this is part of BIMM University. It is a private Uni so the student experience is different from a typical public sector Uni - there was no SU but there was generally less bureaucracy as 2 examples (the 1 star rating for the non-existent SU is due to the way whatuni works). BIMM specialises in creative media courses. I did an MA in Screen & Film Production in its debut year at Manchester. My advice is go to an open day, ask questions and see if the MFS is right for you. read full review

MA Popular Music Practice

BIMM UNIVERSITY

Student Reviewer - November 2025

I completed and graduated from the MA Music Practice programme, and I genuinely struggle to find the words to express my disappointment with this institution. The overall experience fell drastically short of what one would expect from a university-level course—both academically and professionally.

Many of the lecturers appeared burnt out, disengaged, and largely indifferent to students’ development. The course content itself was shockingly basic, more suited to a young teenager than to postgraduate-level study. It became clear that the programme prioritises enrolment numbers over maintaining any real academic standard; it feels far more like a revenue-driven operation than a serious educational environment.

The technical staff were frequently rude or unhelpful, and the organisational structure of the department was chaotic at best. Communication was inconsistent, resources were poorly managed, and support was minimal.

To this day, I am genuinely unsure how this institution attained or maintains university status. read full review

5 stars - I am a huge fan of BIMM University. I studied here for my Undergrad in Vocals. I had the best lecturers and learnt so much. BIMM gave me the skills I needed to thrive in the industry and build confidence with my academic work. I graduated with a 1st Class degree and soon after signed a record deal and got to tour Europe, America, Canada playing and releasing music, which was always my dream. I then came back as a teacher and can see that the University has gone for strength to strength providing an amazing student experience. I'm currently studying my Masters Degree at BIMM under Course Leader - who is fantastic. I'm learning loads, and again, building my confidence and expertise as a practitioner and a researcher. There is so much great opportunity here. Students are working at Great Escape Festival, working on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. There are wonderful in-class industry guests like Harry Styles' Stage Manager, Agents from 13 Artists and International Marketing Manager from Warner (who are all experts in their field but also are all BIMM Alumni!!!) Producer (Stevie Wonder/Sting) does demo drops to feedback on student work. There's a student run record label and an amazing live room (like a big venue room with amazing gear and pro sound/lighting - the walls are covered in signatures by big name industry guests who have held masterclasses here), and the talented lecturers who teach here, all work as pros in the industry. I'm very excited to be studying my MA here and highly recommend BIMM Brighton!  read full review
I think there's a lot of freedom and lots of student support, however communication between departments can be better. read full review

BIMM provides an excellent recording studio as well as a dolby atmos studio. In terms of quality of equipment and sound proofing it's an amazing studio. The Macs in the studios and Mac labs are good. BIMM tied with Pirate studios is also a big plus, free studio time in pirate studio.

Needs more equipment, in terms of synthesisers I don't see anyone using the synthesisers seriously at BIMM, maybe for practice or learning but that's it. The Studio at BIMM tends to be booked all day very quickly, I would prefer if the recording studio was open from 6AM to 12PM instead of the traditional times to make up for it. read full review

No words can fully capture how disappointing this place is. The teachers are disengaged, detached, and nearly impossible to connect with—they seem completely burned out. The courses feel hastily written by leaders who appear to have little to no real-world experience. As for administration and structure, it’s utter chaos. Avoid if you’re looking for a meaningful and organised education. read full review

uni is great but facilities need more maintenance and expanding as it seems the number of students is growing but not the number of rooms. read full review
I found the campus way too small, which makes the facilities rather crowded. The facilities in general are well equipped, except having to book the room becomes more or less like when you're trying to stay up booking Taylor Swift Eras tour.

Student Support is great, and members of staff are all very helpful and friendly. When I was struggling with things, they were very informative about how to resolve certain issues. However, the student wellbeing platform could improve a bit on mobile, as many parts of appointment options are cut off in the description box.

I wish there was more interactions between BA students and MA students, or just students in general. I understand they are doing different courses after all, but it seems extra-curricular activities are lacking to bridge that gap. In other words, unless you are studying in the same course or living in the same student accommodation, there is close to zero chance for you to meet new people unless you directly go up to them and start the conversation. But then again there aren't enough all-purpose rooms for students to meet up on campus at the end of the day to do any extracurricular activities, unlike other universities.

Also, the only place to sit down to socialise seems to be the BIMM cafe or the quiet library upstairs. The former gets packed very quickly and the latter you don't get much interaction going on since you need to be quiet inside. McGettigans is the next alternative option as it's around the corner, but it's exclusive to the university.

Fulham is probably an awkward place to travel to. If a train gets delayed or cancelled, it will take literally hours to get to the campus. Living near Fulham is also very expensive too. read full review
