Course Summary

This unique master’s in podiatry programme offers a direct path to Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration. Designed for those seeking a comprehensive and practical education in podiatry, this course provides you with the skills and knowledge to diagnose and treat foot and lower limb disorders. Many of these disorders are linked to general health conditions, and you will learn how to develop effective patient care pathways that significantly improve quality of life.

Why choose this podiatry programme?

You will:

  • Gain the qualification required for Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
  • Acquire reflective, critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills essential to professional podiatric practice.
  • Develop advanced knowledge, skills, and attributes that will enhance your professional and academic growth.
  • Practise your skills in our on-campus clinic and through placements in real-world settings.
  • Have the opportunity to develop a business case as an option in your final year, preparing you for entrepreneurial roles in podiatry.

Teaching and Learning

You will be taught through a blend of lectures, seminars, and laboratory practicals. Seminars will help you deepen your understanding of lecture topics in smaller, interactive groups. Additionally, you will have regular meetings with your personal tutor to support your learning journey.

Throughout your course, you will use industry-standard design software and have access to our state-of-the-art engineering and computer laboratory facilities.

Year one includes approximately 21 contact hours per week, with:

  • 6 hours of lectures
  • 6 hours of seminars
  • 7 hours of supervised lab practicals
  • 2 hours of one-to-one meetings

When not attending timetabled sessions, you are expected to engage in self-study. This includes reading academic journals and books, working on individual and group projects, conducting research in the library, and preparing coursework and presentations. Your independent learning is supported by excellent resources, including the library, the learning zone, and our engineering and computer labs.

Clinical Placements

Clinical placements are a key component of this programme and are arranged for you in years two and three. You will gain hands-on experience in a variety of NHS settings and private practices. Research placements will also be aligned with your final-year project based on your area of study.

Assessment

Assessment methods include a mix of examinations and coursework, depending on the optional modules you select.

Career Opportunities and Industry Links

We have strong connections with NHS clinics across the North-West of England, allowing our students to experience real-world conditions during their placements. We also offer unique placement opportunities, such as providing foot care to the homeless population through our partnership with Manchester Urban Village.

Our academic staff collaborate with leading pharmaceutical companies specialising in wound care and have established links with orthoses laboratories. These connections ensure that your education remains aligned with the latest evidence-based practices in podiatry.
