MFA Theatre Directing

UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX

Jessica - February 2026

East 15 is a great place. It's beautiful. It has EXCELLENT Acting programs (BA, MA, for British students, for International Students, Contemporary Theatre program, etc). The Directing program however is not the best. There are many problems with it and it really needs a review and an overhaul. The way the program stands now, it is not working --and on many levels. Many people at East 15 say that the Directing program is just a way for the University to make money. That's not really fair to the students, many of whom come from thousands of miles away and pay thousands of pounds to be here. For the University's sake, as well as for the students in the program, I hope that the University of Essex will look into this issue. read full review
Great support from Life Sciences researchers and a feeling that they care for their students.
Campus is lacking good food outlets, overpriced and unhealthy food. Buffalo Joes is ludicrously priced for the quality of the food you receive and everything available is processed rubbish across campus. For a campus that is self contained and not within walking distance to amenities in town there is very little options available, previously we had outlets like Waterstones, now we have empty units that offer nothing. read full review

I really enjoy being at the university and appreciate everything it offers. However, I find it quite difficult to find good vegetarian or vegan food options on campus. There are very limited choices beyond fries or dishes that are heavily loaded with cheese, and although there are a few vegan options, they tend to be quite expensive. Overall, there are very few healthy and balanced vegetarian or vegan meals available. I hope that more affordable and nutritious options can be introduced in the future. read full review
