Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at University of Essex

It is a lovely place to study for me. Great location, Easy Transportation for bus & train both. Lot of faculties are here for students. My supervisors are very kind and very supportive for my studies. I have participated for the summer school as well. It was a superb experience. I was able to travel with my colleagues as well. The department always follow us for everything. read full review
The student union is very supportive, there are many people and professionals ready to help in many places (about finances, accomodation, mental health etc). SU homes especially has helped me find a good accomodation outside of the campus which has been detrimental to my life here in Essex. One place where I wish things would improve would be the financial support as my master's program is very financially demanding read full review

UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX

Lots - October 2026

The best part is i got lot of good friends from different countries..the worst part is the tution fee..it's so unfair to international students to take that much money from them read full review
A mixed bag.
Poor induction - partly because it turned out I was the only student on my degree pathway, so was added to small groups of students doing unrelated subjects.
Some good teaching - some really quite poor.
Some marking feedback useful - some indifferent and once even insulting.
Poor experience for my mental health - a lot contributed to increased anxiety.
I needed extensions for some assignments, but these were not available - I was forced to use 'mitigating circumstances', which meant I got zero pending committee review. A very stressful experience.

The best things is the campus nature and the student life. The worst thing is that the resit period takes place in August. read full review

The university has good facilities and provides useful academic resources for students. The library and online learning platforms are helpful, and the courses are well-structured with relevant content. It is a good place to study if you are focused and independent.

However, the overall environment could be more welcoming and friendly. Sometimes it feels difficult to approach staff or connect with other students. Improving student support, communication, and creating a more inclusive and friendly atmosphere would make the experience much better. read full review
