Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at University of Essex

Supportive environment. Friendly students. read full review
The uni has a really friendly, welcoming vibe, the study spaces are very nice and there’s lots of choice for getting a coffee on campus. The Thursday food market is so varied and brings a really lively energetic atmosphere. As I am a commuting student, there is lots of parking available and there is a reasonably priced parking permit available too.

There could be a a few more inside spaces to go in times of bad weather that aren’t study spaces, and there could be a few more places to get food on campus. read full review

The study environment is cute; facilities are top notch and the teaching staff, very supportive. However, there are challenges. First, the transport to and from school. There is no bus commuting from my accommodation to school without me having to trek and for this reason, I had to commune on foot on daily basis, though, this saves my cost. Another major challenge is getting a job either on campus or off campus despite repeated trials. Lastly is the timetable that is choked and hardly gives any space for work. I had the challenge of locating classes initially, but I have overcome that now. Apart from all these, everything has been fine. read full review
Great teachers and facilities. But the student union societies are not representative of what they are representing. read full review
Diverse modules
Nice lecturers
More water stations needed - a fountain inside the toilets feels unhygienic read full review
UOE is a great place to study because it is an accessible and inclusive university, especially for students with disabilities. The classrooms, teaching materials, and online systems are well designed to support different needs. In addition, the university is very supportive—student wellbeing services, academic advisors, and professors are approachable, understanding, and genuinely invested in students’ success. read full review

UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX

I believe the advantages of the university lie in the multidisciplinary support given to students, not only within the program but throughout the entire educational system, ensuring our academic progress to the fullest and addressing any problems that might interfere with it. The library has an advanced and easily accessible system. One of the problems that arises is finding a classroom; it's quite confusing, even with the use of MazeMap. I think it would be very beneficial to lower the cost of laundry services and to have a community dining hall. read full review

The state of the art facilities, student support, well structured campus and a great student union makes it a great place to study! read full review
I like the up to date facilities and the response and characters of those who work there. I do not partake much in student life so I can't speak to that, there's plenty of places to eat, some of the food is a bit hit and miss but the prices are low and nothings terrible but some things are great! The lessons are extremely hard work but the amount learnt was astounding. Given I am studying a part time course this meant I could absorb more information from each module as I only studied 2 15 credit modules each term instead of the 4 modules the full time students do per term. I would recommend anyone doing this course should do it part time to get the most out of the education, even if the ability to attend full time is available to them.

The main downside was, as a part time student it was obvious that the course was not designed for a part time student working set hours during the day as the classes were often split over several days of the week, even when only studying 2 modules per term. This meant I often had to pick what I could attend as I couldn't attend every class due to work. I also found a downside with the recorded lectures, in that only the room audio and whatever was displayed on the screen was recorded, if the person teaching wrote on the white boards at any point, which was often, this was not captured, making studying via recorded lectures much harder. Lastly, any timetabling clashes were not handled despite reporting them, I was merely told to pick a different module as one of them was "optional", however the modules I chose those for a reason and no possibility of adjustment was even considered. read full review
