Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at Keele University

PhD History

KEELE UNIVERSITY

Imeje - November 2025

As an international PhD student at Keele University, I have had a fantastic experience so far. The university's location in a serene environment is ideal for studying, with easy access to nearby towns like Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent, offering a range of shopping and services.

The staff and resources at Keele have been incredibly supportive. I have found the university archives and library to be excellent resources, with friendly staff who have provided one-on-one training and helped me source materials both within and outside the university.

The Keele Practice, the University's health centre, provides students with exceptional healthcare services. Additionally, the university organises training sessions on balancing health, well-being, and studying, which have been particularly valuable to me as a PhD research student.

I also appreciate the monthly training sessions organised by the Keele Doctoral Academy (KDA), which cater to the research needs of Postgraduate Researchers and align with the Researcher Development Framework (RDF). The School of Law, Business, Humanities, and Social Sciences' multi-disciplinary approach has been helpful, and the teaching staff are well-equipped to support PGRs.

Overall, my experience at Keele University has been a great blend of warm hospitality and academic excellence. read full review

KEELE UNIVERSITY

Rukshana - November 2025

The staff are absolutely amazing. The nerves I felt before starting university were eased the moment I arrived. The kindness, support, and reassurance I received made me feel truly valued. The teaching staff and my academic mentor always go above and beyond, whenever I’ve had an issue, they’ve taken the time to guide me through solutions with patience and care.

The learning environment is incredibly supportive, with lecturers who are knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely passionate about helping students succeed. The facilities are excellent, and the resources available make studying much easier and more enjoyable.

In terms of improvement, the only thing I would suggest is for the placement team to involve students more and to take into account the challenges many of us face, especially mature students. Because placements are unpaid, they need to fit realistically around a student’s circumstances, rather than expecting the student to simply adjust everything else in their life. It’s not about being difficult; it’s about balancing childcare, work, and home responsibilities while still being fully committed to completing the degree. It’s often said that “you won’t have a choice once you start the job,” but that doesn’t acknowledge the reality that paid work allows you to afford childcare and support. A little more flexibility and understanding would make a huge difference to students in varying situations.
which I feel would make an already fantastic experience even better.* read full review
The best experiences are opportunities, university beauty but worst experience is that class mates and people don’t engage with others racism on peak read full review
Campus is very beautiful according to the location you really enjoy roaming around the campus the big drawback is that they don't have any direct bus service directly from train station to university over all teaching staff is very very capable and professional if we talk about facilities then the university is fully equipped they can improve themselves by offering discounts to the students specially to those who commute on daily basis and there should be a shuttle service inside the university because it's a very huge campus read full review
Best paet of Uni life would be meeting diverse people, being able to live in the middle of such a lovely campus and of course having supportive staff and student support.
Worst part of uni life would be the weather. Saddle can't control that. read full review
