Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at Birkbeck, University of London

Birkbeck academics are bar none. They are amazing!! The administration doesn’t prioritize students and offers little support. read full review
I started my course in October 2nd of last year, as a foreign student. I already have some other graduation in my country, but studying abroad, in a total different place, with different culture and language, has been a challenge since I got here, even more because the methodology of teaching and education system works in a different manner than I was used to in my country, demanding specific skills and evaluating some aspects differently, what despite being harder, is also greater for my academic and intellectual development! I feel that Birkbeck really provides me with everything I need to make this journey more acessible! The library is HUGE! And ALL the literature avaiable for reading and recommended by the professors are amazing! Besides it, the online tutorials and workshop calendars are very useful! Whenever I get lost about a procedure or when I'm not sure how something works, there's a tutorial or online page where I can run to. Well, as mentioned at the beginning, being a foreign student is definetely hard! But I feel I couldn't have chosen a better university to make this journey easier and more comfortable! read full review
The teaching at birkbeck is great: academics are clearly passionate about what they do and willing to support students to pursue their interests. They are also understanding that students are balancing work and other commitments outside their studies, which is important.
The diversity of the student body is also a great asset to the university.
Some facilities feel slightly neglected and underfunded, especially classroom IT facilities, but I’m only based in one building so this may not be representative across campus. read full review
I love the fact that I can access all of my studies online read full review
As an international student coming from the United States, I found the enrolment process quite difficult at times very stressful. The communication process was difficult over the telephone and the email process sometimes took up to ten days to receive a response. This proved stressful as most requirements for international travel were time sensitive. The most disappointing situation was after I received my student VISA, I was told the master's program I was registered to, was discontinued due to low student enrolment. This was just days away from my flight to London and I had to change to a different master's program or loose my student VISA and forfeit all financial aid. I was only offered some help from the program director of the Environment and Sustainability program. I feel like the department of international students be the first response for all international students in my situation. The process should not be as stressful or as difficult a process as this was for me. Especially when traveling across the globe to be a part of such a highly recommended university. I am grateful I was able to remain here at Birkbeck and have started to build a wonderful relationship with my professors. Please take my words as an area to improve with the intentions of becoming an even better institution of higher learning. read full review
One of the reasons I picked Birkbeck as my Uni was because of the evening classes which gives time to work and to other things you have to do.
It’s a great place to study as the professors and lecturers makes class engaging and learning easier, making student feel confident and comfortable to express themselves. I have also seen how they are keen on making sure everyone needs are met especially in the classroom. They also like to hear feedbacks and your opinion on improvement, which makes Birkbeck a good place to study. read full review
