Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at Birkbeck, University of London

Interesting academic environment, many talented lecturers and a strong sense of cooperation. However, there could be more study areas. read full review
The lecturers are superb. We have some of the kindest, most competent staff you will ever meet. Support, such as disability, finance, and counselling are provided to students at Birkbeck too, read full review

The teaching standards are not that high on my course. The Students' Union is non-existent, as is the student accommodation! Birkbeck is in a fantastic location though, in the city of London, and there is plenty to do and see. read full review
I've met some great people on my course and love the diversity of people who go to university here. I really enjoy the content and flexibility of the course; the best things are the modules and lectures. The British Museum is nearby, and the nightlife for students is really good. Overall, the facilities are good but they could do with more computers in the library, especially around 5pm when it gets really busy. They should also have better food in the canteen. In terms of support, students are offered financial support, for example, bursaries at both levels, partial help with course costs. read full review
An excellent qualification which is both professional and fun. Most people who have graduated are still in the theatre business. My course is very hands-on and diverse. The Students' Union is very active too, but the toilets in the Art Building need re-doing. City life is incredible; it's London after all! read full review
A great place to study, especially if you are at work or have other commitments during the day. The lectures are taught by leaders in the field. read full review

The course is not accredited, so it may be difficult to get a job after graduating. I wouldn't recommend Birkbeck University to others. read full review
The best thing about my course is the flexible timetable. However, I haven't heard a lot about the Students' Union as nothing has been publicised from them. Overall, I am enjoying my experience so far. read full review

The Student Cafe doesn't allow us to bring in our own food which is annoying. I don't live in student accommodation but I've heard it's good. The topics covered as part of my course have been fairly easy to learn, and I'm enjoying it so far. However, I think it will be difficult to get a job after graduating. The Students' Union needs to be more proactive, as I haven't heard much from them or what they do to help students. read full review
