UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM
Overall Rating

As the UK's first civic university, the architecture (like the Aston Webb building) isn't just beautiful—it represents a legacy of world-changing research and a "Russell Group" reputation that global employers (like IBM) respect. Unlike many city universities, UoB has a self-contained campus. You have your own train station, a 50m Olympic pool, and the Green Heart (a 12-acre parkland). It feels safe and communal, especially for international students.

Accommodation

What I love most about UoB halls, especially The Vale, is the sense of community. It feels like a parkland retreat away from the city. You get the best of both worlds: a peaceful place to study and a huge social scene right on your doorstep. If I had to pick a 'least favorite' part, it would be the 'Selly Oak Shuffle'—the walk can be a bit long if you’re carrying heavy books, and it gets lively at night! My tip for postgrads? Look for the quieter 'Global Community' blocks if you want a bit more peace during your Master's.
