UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX
Overall Rating

The best aspect of my university experience has been the academic environment. There is a real culture of intellectual curiosity, with access to seminars, workshops, and opportunities to collaborate with supervisors and peers across disciplines. This has made studying and researching here genuinely stimulating.

The resources for research are strong, but navigating them as a PhD student can be challenging. Understanding what benefits are available and filling out forms is often confusing and time-consuming.

On the research side, the landscape is rich, but accessing data and publishing findings often takes longer than expected. This can make planning projects and seeing progress frustrating at times. There doesn't seem to be any acknowledgements from universities on how this strongly affects research projects.

Improvement could come from clearer guidance for PhD students, particularly around benefits, administrative processes. More streamlined support for data access and research administration would also make a big difference.

Overall, despite these challenges, the university remains a stimulating place to study and grow as a researcher. With small improvements in administrative clarity and support, the experience could be even stronger.
