Architecture Part 2, MArch

UNIVERSITY OF GREENWICH
Overall Rating

Best aspects of my University of Greenwich experience:
• Location + atmosphere: Being in London (and around the Greenwich area) makes studying feel connected to real culture, architecture, museums, talks, and opportunities. It doesn’t feel “isolated” like some campuses.
• Supportive tutors and studio culture (especially on creative courses): When you show up consistently, ask questions, and bring your work in progress, you get real, useful feedback that pushes your thinking forward.
• Facilities + learning spaces: The studios and workshops make a big difference for hands-on work, and the library/study spaces are solid when you need to lock in.
• Diverse community: You meet people from different backgrounds, which actually improves group work and the way you think and design/argue ideas.
• Independence: You’re trusted to manage your time and develop your own direction, which is challenging but prepares you for real work.

Worst aspects / things that could be improved:
• Admin can be slow or unclear: Timetables, room changes, bookings, and email responses can sometimes feel last-minute or confusing.
• Inconsistent communication across modules: Different tutors/modules can have different expectations, so deadlines and marking criteria don’t always feel equally clear unless you chase it.
• Pressure around deadlines: There can be weeks where several submissions stack up, and it becomes more about survival than learning.
• More structured careers support (especially for placements): There are opportunities in London, but it can feel like you have to discover everything yourself. More targeted links to internships, networking, and industry mentorship would help.
• Access to equipment/workshops: When demand is high, booking slots can be competitive—more availability or clearer booking systems would improve the experience.

How it could be improved (practical ideas):
• Clearer, more consistent module briefs and marking rubrics
• Faster, more joined-up admin + communications
• Better industry connections (guest speakers, alumni mentoring, placement pipelines)
• More workshop/equipment access during peak submission periods

Accommodation

What I like most about the halls
• Convenience: It’s easy to get to campus and into central London, so day-to-day life feels simple.
• Good student vibe: You’re around people your age all the time, so it’s easier to make friends and not feel isolated.
• Safety and support: Having staffed reception/security (and a clear process for issues) makes it feel secure.
• Basics are covered: Rooms are generally functional for studying, and having everything in one place (bed, desk, kitchen) helps you stay organised.

What I like least / what could be improved
• Value for money: For the price, rooms can feel small and some things feel a bit “standard” rather than high quality.
• Maintenance speed: When something breaks (heating, kitchen stuff, Wi-Fi), it can take longer than you’d want to get fixed.
• Kitchen/shared space issues: Cleanliness depends on who you live with, and noise can be a problem during busy weeks.
• Amenities could be stronger: More reliable laundry, better kitchen equipment, and more comfortable common spaces would make a big difference.

Biggest improvement I’d suggest
• Faster maintenance response + a few upgrades to shared spaces (kitchens/laundry/common areas) to match the cost.
