HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY
Overall Rating

Heriot-Watt University is a great place to study because of its strong focus on employability, academic quality, and industry relevance. The university is consistently ranked highly for graduate prospects in the UK, reflecting its emphasis on producing work-ready graduates with practical and transferable skills. Its programmes are closely aligned with industry needs, particularly in engineering, science, business, and energy-related fields, and are supported by applied research that is recognised internationally. Heriot-Watt’s global campus network in the UK, Dubai, and Malaysia also provides students with an international learning environment and global exposure. In addition, the Edinburgh campus offers a modern, well-resourced setting with strong research facilities and a diverse student community.
However, there are areas where Heriot-Watt could improve. Student support services, particularly academic feedback and mentoring, could be more consistent across programmes. Some students also report variability in teaching quality and course organisation. Greater integration of structured placements and internships within degree programmes would further enhance employability, especially for international students. Finally, the main Edinburgh campus is located outside the city centre, which can limit access to part-time work and social activities. Addressing these areas would further strengthen the overall student experience.
