Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at University of Central Lancashire

The worst aspect is how the organisational part of the University is in complete chaos and behind on everything. It's apparent that departments are understaffed and not properly supported. When I started, I fought to get some information, did not have proper student status, did not get a student card, and did not get any information about the start of the course, now I'm waiting for the board to confirm my marks, which happened two weeks ago, but I don't know the results yet, because some kind of department haven't published it yet. No one knows anything, no one knows what advice to give me, and no one dares to guess the timeframe. When the course started, we got all the information and documents in the email from the course director, because timetables and blackboard didn't work for anyone for weeks after the course started.
The best part is mental health support. When I contacted the director of my programme to ask for an extension due to reoccurring mental health problems and unexpected financial difficulties that made it worse, he immediately requested for me to get mental health support, their response was quick, very helpful and I've received the best counselling to date, which happened very quickly, in comparison to my previous university. read full review
The best aspects of my uni experience have been the standard of teaching and the assignment style. I think every module I have done has been really organised. The use of blackboard and emails is really well put together. I know exactly where to look for everything I need. Another good aspect is that there’s no pressure for fitting into a group, I am quite shy and socially introverted, and so it is a blessing that I can come in and study and attend lectures without feeling as though I need to worry about socialising as well. Everyone seems to be kind and understanding of eachother. There are lots of individuals like myself that don’t attend lectures or seminars with anyone else. It has helped develop my confidence in talking to people I don’t know as I’m more self-accepting and aware that we are all in the same boat. It’s a really good atmosphere (in my opinion). I think it’s clear too that the tutors have our best interests at heart and actually want us to succeed. I also love the new buildings, it gives the uni a professional and modern feel. One of my favourite things is the ability to go to open lectures about anything. I study psychology, but last week I went to a talk about astrophysics and learnt all about a telescope. These events are good places to network if you want to, or just learn about something interesting that maybe you wouldn’t usually look into.

My only feedback for improvement would be the use of old buildings or architecture. For example, during graduation it would be nice to celebrate with old buildings as well as the new ones. I sometimes feel like the red carpet in front of the modern building makes the graduation look abit cheap. Whereas maybe if it was surrounded by an old building or not with a red carpet it would look abit more tasteful. read full review
Studying at UClan University has been an enriching experience from the start. The university offers a diverse range of programs taught by knowledgeable and supportive faculty members who are genuinely invested in their students' success. The campus facilities are modern and conducive to learning, with well-equipped libraries, labs, and study spaces. What sets UClan apart is its emphasis on practical learning through internships, placements, and industry collaborations, providing invaluable real-world experience to complement classroom education. Moreover, the university's vibrant student community fosters a sense of belonging and encourages extracurricular involvement, enhancing overall personal and professional growth. UCLan makes a big effort in student support services and the new student centre is a real hub for the campus. However, I have found administration at school level to be average/poor. read full review
The student support and union is top tier, and is very inclusive. Everyone's treated equally, and support is provided when needed. The new student centre building gives you space for networking, relaxing or just minding your business and doing your work. read full review
Firstly, when I came to university I was scared because I am an international student and I don’t know much about everything. But as I entered, I found out that all the staff, students and members of university are amicable and cordial. That really helps me to feel relax and jubilant. Day-by-day as my classes and lecture going on, I feel that it is my best career decision to be a part of this university. Thank you very much ♥️ read full review
